About this work

Most flat roofs fail for one of three reasons: poor falls that leave water standing, cheap materials that perish, or bad detailing at the edges and upstands. Get those three right and a modern flat roof will last for decades.

We replace and repair flat roofs on extensions, garages, dormers, porches and bay windows across the Tenterden area, using GRP fibreglass, EPDM rubber or high-performance felt depending on what suits the roof.

Our approach

How we go about it.

  1. 01

    Strip back to the deck

We remove the old covering and check the decking. Rotten or soft boards are replaced, covering over them is a false economy.

  2. 02

    Create proper falls

Firrings or tapered insulation to make sure water actually leaves the roof.

  3. 03

    Choose the right system

GRP for a seamless, hard-wearing finish on smaller roofs; EPDM for larger areas; felt where it suits the building or budget.

  4. 04

    Detail the edges

Trims, upstands, flashings and outlets are where flat roofs leak. We take our time here.

From the trade

Questions we're often asked

Which is better, GRP or EPDM?

Neither is universally better. GRP gives a seamless, rigid finish that suits smaller roofs with lots of detail. EPDM is excellent on larger, simpler areas. We'll recommend based on your roof.

How long will a new flat roof last?

A properly installed GRP or EPDM roof should last 25 years or more. Many go far longer.

Can you insulate the flat roof at the same time?

Yes. Converting to a warm-roof construction improves comfort in the room below and is often the sensible time to do it.
