About this work
Garden and boundary walls are a big part of the character of villages like Tenterden, Biddenden and Rolvenden. We build new walls, rebuild those that have failed or been knocked down, and repair and repoint walls that just need attention.
It's a natural extension of the brickwork we've always done on chimneys and roofs, and it's the sort of smaller project we're well set up for.
Our approach
How we go about it.
01
Foundations first
New walls get proper foundations. Failing walls are checked to see whether the footing or the wall itself is the problem.
02
Match or choose the brick
Reclaimed bricks to match an existing wall, or a new brick chosen to suit the house.
03
Build it right
Correct bond, movement joints where needed, piers at sensible centres, and copings that throw water clear.
04
Finish the surroundings
Paths, gravel or planting made good so the wall sits properly in the garden.

From the trade
Questions we're often asked
Do I need planning permission for a garden wall?
Walls up to 2 metres (1 metre next to a highway) generally don't need permission, with some exceptions for listed buildings and conservation areas. We can advise.
Can you rebuild a wall using the original bricks?
Often, yes, if they're sound. We'll clean and reuse them and make up any shortfall with matching reclaimed brick.
