Trade roots dating back to 1984

Forty years isn't a marketing line.

Our work was being photographed and documented long before anyone was searching Google for a local contractor. Today, that archive tells the story better than we ever could.

Every job got a typed project sheet and a set of prints, filed in the company portfolio. The folder still exists. We're scanning it, page by page, and putting it online exactly as it was kept, faded prints and all.

Original trade certificate, 1984

Original trade certificate, 1984. An approved bricklaying apprenticeship, issued 13 September 1984. The earliest dated document in our records.

The problem. The existing balcony was rotten right through, deck, substrate and the joists themselves, with rusted fixings. Nothing was worth keeping, and everything had to come back to a sound structure before any new surface could go down, including a curved edge that had to be cut accurately to follow the building.

Our approach. Strip out of all the rotten timber back to a sound structure, then a new deck built and cut to size, including the curved section, as a strong, level substrate for the tiles. The balcony was then waterproofed, tiled in large-format slabs, the curved soffit formed beneath, and the glass balustrade and posts fitted to finish.

The result. A solid, fully rebuilt balcony: curved deck cut to fit, tiled surface, formed soffit beneath and a glass balustrade giving open views over the garden.

Then & now

The tools change. The principles don't.

Our original project records document roofing, chimney, brickwork and property projects completed decades ago across Surrey and the surrounding areas. Today, that experience is concentrated into a specialist roofing service built around the same fundamentals: sound workmanship, appropriate materials and work designed to last.

Chimneys & leadwork

Where most roof problems actually start.

Ask any experienced roofer where leaks begin and they'll point to the same places: chimneys, flashings, valleys and abutments. The junctions.

Lead that's been fixed in lengths too long. Flaunching that's cracked. Mortar that's weathered back. Small details, but they're the reason for a large share of the damp ceilings we're asked to look at. We've spent four decades getting them right, in brick and in lead.

Brickwork

More than roofing.

Because we've spent decades building and rebuilding chimneys, customers also call us for the smaller brickwork and exterior jobs that don't warrant a big building firm.

Why people choose us

Nothing you'd have to take on trust.

Every one of these is something the work itself can show you.
  1. 01

    Forty-odd years in the trade

We started when many of today's roofing products didn't exist. We've watched materials come and go and kept what works.

  2. 02

    Family-run

You'll deal with the people whose name is on the van, from the first visit to the last tile. Knowledge here has been passed down, not read off a training slide.

  3. 03

    Local knowledge

We know the buildings around Tenterden, Biddenden and Rolvenden, what they're made of, how they fail, and what they need.

  4. 04

    Traditional skills, modern materials

Hand-dressed lead and peg tiles on one job; GRP and breathable membranes on the next. We use what's right for the roof.

  5. 05

    Honest advice

If a repair will do, we'll say so. If the roof has had its day, we'll show you why. No pressure either way.

  6. 06

    Properly surveyed

We look before we quote, on the roof, in the loft, and we put what we find in writing.

  7. 07

    Work that lasts

Some of the roofs we worked on decades ago are still keeping Kent homes dry. That's the standard we still work to.

  8. 08

    Respect for your property

Tidy sites, protected gardens, and everything cleared away when we leave.
