About this work
An outbuilding is one of the few jobs where you start with a blank canvas. Whether it's a garage, a workshop or somewhere to keep the garden things dry, we plan the building around what you need it for, then build it from the ground up: foundations, frame, cladding and roof.
We've done exactly this before, including a large outbuilding in Rolvenden built from open ground, from the structure and cladding through to the clay tiled roof. Because roofing is our trade, the part that keeps the weather out is done properly.
Our approach
How we go about it.
01
Plan it together
We start with what the building is for and where it will sit, then agree the size, style and materials with you before anything is ordered.
02
Start from the ground
Proper foundations and a level base. Everything above depends on this, so we don't cut corners here.
03
Frame, cladding and cover
A sound timber frame, cladding chosen to suit the setting, and a roof covered in clay tiles or a modern flat roofing system, all fixed to last.
04
Finish and make good
Doors, gutters and finishes fitted, the ground made good around the building, and everything left tidy.

From the trade
Questions we're often asked
Do I need planning permission for an outbuilding?
Many outbuildings fall under permitted development, but it depends on size, height and where the building sits. We'll talk it through with you before work starts.
Can you match the building to our house?
Yes. Tile type, cladding and proportions are chosen so the building sits comfortably alongside the main house, which matters on older properties and in conservation areas.
How long does an outbuilding take to build?
Most modest buildings take a few weeks on site, weather permitting. We'll give you a realistic timescale with the quotation.
