About this work
Water travels. A damp patch above a bedroom window might start at a chimney three metres away, run along a rafter and drip where it finally finds a gap. Finding the real entry point is the difference between a repair that lasts and one you'll be paying for again next winter.
After forty-plus years on roofs around the Weald we have a fair idea where to look first, and we won't stop looking until we've found it.
Our approach
How we go about it.
01
Inside first
We start in the loft. Water marks on timbers point to the entry area far more reliably than the ceiling stain does.
02
Then the roof
We check the usual culprits in order: flashings, valleys, chimney details, ridge and hip mortar, then the tiles themselves.
03
Make it watertight
If it's raining and the roof is letting water in, we secure it first and agree the permanent repair afterwards.
04
Fix it once
We repair the failed detail with the right material, usually lead where lead has failed, rather than sealant that will be back to square one in two winters.

Why experience matters
Most leaks we're called to have already been 'fixed' at least once with mastic or a bucket of bitumen. Experience is knowing that those aren't repairs, and knowing what the proper repair looks like for each type of roof.
We attend roof leaks across Tenterden, Rolvenden, Biddenden, Wittersham, Woodchurch and the surrounding area.
From the trade
Questions we're often asked
Can you come out in bad weather?
We'll come and look as soon as it's safe to get on the roof. Where needed we'll make a temporary repair to stop water coming in until the weather allows the proper job.
My roof only leaks in certain wind directions, is that normal?
Very. Wind-driven rain finds gaps that ordinary rain doesn't, particularly around chimneys, abutments and verges. It's a useful clue to where the problem is.
Will I need to claim on insurance?
That depends on the cause. If it's storm damage we can provide a report and photographs to support a claim.
